Can We Use Marijuana for Seizures?

We certainly can, and we have a flood of proofs to argue in favor of this statement. And this is not something new; we have been using medical marijuana since the 19th century.

The introducer of this eastern medicine was William O’Shaughnessy. His studies on cannabis during his time in India as an officer of the East India Company led Victorian England to accept marijuana as a medicine.

Meanwhile, two neurologists of the same era, William Gowers and J.R. Reynolds worked on cannabis’ effects on humans and epilepsy. It is kind of already proven that marijuana can actually cure seizures. But still, we are about to see the dynamics of the thing; marijuana for seizures.

Is Cannabis Even a Medicine?

This very question is the mere reason why medical marijuana is still very understudies. Yes, cannabis is medicine too. There are a lot of compounds that we get from marijuana. Two essential compounds we get from a weed plant are CBD and THC.

Cannabidiol and tetrahydrocannabinol both serve different functions. THC is mostly responsible for that high effect, which soothes your mind, as you do the pot. Meanwhile, CBD is principally a medicine, which mostly has health benefits.

And it is the CBD; doctors are using in the medicine used to tackle epilepsy. You know cannabis in most states is already used to manage, Lack of Appetite, Insomnia, Muscle Spasms, Cocaine Addiction, chronic pain, Fibromyalgia Pain, Kidney Stones, etc.

The Studies

There are plenty of studies to support this claim of cannabis curing epilepsy. One such study by the United States of Epidiolex is going on for a couple of years.

Data from some of the same studies helped in providing much-needed indications that helped in getting this MMJ approved by the FDA in June last year. Epidiolex has >98% purified CBD extract from the marijuana plant.

These people have used the standard gold method of studies to check the medicine, and of course, the result was positive. Several other small level studies have concluded that cannabidiol present in the cannabis plant can help in the treatment of epilepsy.

Thanks to strict federal laws and governmental war against drug propaganda, bigger and wider studies are yet in the pipeline.

It has Next to None Side-Effects

THC or smoking weed can be a problem for some people, they may feel anxious or have a panic attack, but nothing of the sort is associated with the CBD at the moment. When the majority of patients are safe from the side effects of marijuana, the same cannot be said about all.

Some patients can feel uneasy in the stomach after using medical marijuana. Other side-effects include diarrhea, tiredness, and nausea, but these are very weird. It is essential to understand here that MMJ is still medicine, and it is the human liver that can break it down.

Conclusion

So, it is all about medical marijuana and why one should be using it for managing epilepsy. With next to none, the bad effects of this medicine, it is still a terrific bargain. Marijuana for seizures is undoubtedly a fantastic choice; one just has to put faith in it.

Our ancestors used weed for the better half of their lives and not in one civilization in almost all of them. There must be something great in it for this affection. Also there are many cases in which medical marijuana has actually helped people by saving their lives, so what are you waiting for?
